Paarl & the Winelands

Computer repairs in Paarl, fixed properly rather than patched

A tower that will not switch on, a machine that dies under load, a drive that has started clicking. We test the machine properly instead of swapping parts at random, tell you what is actually wrong, and quote in writing before we start work.

  • Written quote before any work starts
  • 6-month warranty on every repair
  • Diagnosis fee credited to the repair
  • Bring the tower in — most work while you wait

Common faults

The PC faults we fix most weeks

A PC that will not switch on looks like one problem from the outside. It is usually one of four, and only testing tells you which.

A 2TB NVMe M.2 solid state drive, the kind fitted in SSD upgrades and drive cloning
StorageNVMe and SATA drives — fitting, cloning, and recovering data off a drive that is on its way out.

Will not power on

Nothing at all when you press the button: no lights, no fan, no beep. We test the power supply, the front panel switches, the memory and the board in that order, because that is the cheapest route to an answer.

Will not boot or no POST

Fans spin, lights come on, then nothing or it beeps and restarts. Usually memory, a drive, or a BIOS setting that got changed — occasionally a board that has failed.

Power supply failures

A PSU that has gone can take the whole machine with it, and can be a fire risk. We test and replace rather than leaving it in, and will fit a quieter or more efficient unit if you want.

Failing hard drives and SSDs

Clicking, disappearing from the BIOS, or a machine that suddenly will not boot are all drive symptoms. Stop using it as soon as you can and bring it in — every power-on risks the data.

Shutdowns and overheating

A PC that restarts under load is usually telling you about dust, a dried thermal paste, or a fan that has stopped. Cheap to fix, and it stops the machine from taking the rest of itself with it.

Random restarts and freezes

Usually power delivery or heat, sometimes memory that has started failing. We stress-test the machine so the answer is not a guess.

How it works

Four steps, and you approve the price at step two

We will not start charging you to find out what is wrong, and we do not start repairing until you have approved a written quote.

1. Diagnosis

We bring the machine up, test it properly and work out what is actually failing. Bring the tower and any drive you have removed or replaced yourself.

2. Written quote

You get the fault, the parts and the price in writing. Anything we find that the quote did not cover gets quoted separately before it is done.

3. Repair

Done at the bench, usually while you wait. If a part is on order we will tell you the expected date before you commit to the work.

4. Testing and warranty

We stress-test it before it leaves — boots, load, thermals, memory — then hand it back with a 6-month warranty on the work and the parts.

Upgrades

Upgrades that are worth more than a new PC

A lot of the machines that arrive here are not finished — they are a hard drive with Windows on it, or a machine with the memory it shipped with in 2015. Both are cheap to fix.

A desktop processor seated in its socket on a motherboard
Processor and motherboard workRe-pasting, thermal care and CPU-socket level faults, done properly rather than with an air blower.

SSD upgrade

The single biggest improvement you can make to an older tower. We clone your existing drive across so your programs, files and settings are exactly where you left them, or install clean if you would rather start fresh.

More RAM

Running out of memory shows up as stuttering, slow browser tabs and everything grinding when three things are open at once. Cheap, quick and reversible.

Graphics card upgrade

For gaming and for editing or design work. We check the case has room and the power supply can carry the card before we fit anything.

Clean, re-paste and service

Dust and dried thermal paste are why a quiet old machine suddenly sounds like a jet engine and throttles under load. Cleaning it out usually restores both the noise and the performance.

Custom builds

Custom PC and streaming builds

We also build machines from scratch — gaming, office, and streaming setups.

Built to your budget, not our parts list

Tell us what you want to do with it and what you want to spend, and we will specify parts that actually work together. We will tell you when something should not be upgraded because the money is better spent somewhere else.

Bring your own parts

Already have a case, a graphics card or a set of parts? We will build around what you have, check it all works together, and cable it up properly. Streaming setups with capture cards, audio and dual monitors are routine work for us.

Where we are

Workshop in Northern Paarl, serving the Winelands

Repairs happen at the bench, so bring the tower in if you can. If it is too heavy to move on your own, call us first and we will work something out.

Paarl and Paarl Central

We are at 62 Bosch, Northern Paarl, Paarl, 7646. Open Monday to Friday 08:00–17:00 and weekends 09:00–13:00.

Wellington and Franschhoek

Regularly serve customers across the Winelands. If you can, bring the PC's own monitor and the cables too — a lot of faults only show up on the screen you actually use. We repair the computer, not the monitor.

Questions

PC repair questions, answered honestly

Straight answers about cost, data and how long things take. If something is missing, call us — we would rather talk it through first.

My PC will not turn on at all. Is it the power supply?

Often, but not always. We test the power supply first because it is the cheapest thing to rule out, then the front panel switches, the memory and the board. You get told which it actually is before we quote, and we do not charge you to find out.

What does a PC repair cost?

The quote is written down before any work starts and that is the price. If opening the case reveals a bigger problem than the symptom suggested, we stop and re-quote rather than carrying on.

Do you do data recovery?

Yes, when the data is still on the drive. We work on failing drives in a controlled way because every power-on of a dying disk risks losing what is left. Bring the drive in as soon as you can, and keep using the machine as little as possible until then.

Should I upgrade my PC or replace it?

Tell us what it is slow at and what you want it to do. Plenty of machines that feel finished are really just full or running on a mechanical hard drive, and an SSD plus more memory often transforms one for a fraction of the cost of a new PC. We will tell you honestly if a new machine makes more sense.

How long does a repair take?

Diagnosing and quoting is normally same-day. Clean-and-service, RAM and SSD upgrades and fan or thermal work are usually while you wait. Anything involving an ordered part takes as long as the part takes, and we will tell you the wait before you agree to it.

Can you work on my PC while I wait?

For most jobs, yes — upgrades, clean-and-service, software faults and diagnosis are done at the bench. If a repair needs to run for hours or overnight we will arrange a time to collect it.

Do you build custom gaming PCs?

Yes. We specify parts to your budget and what you actually want to play, build it here, and test it before it leaves. Bring your existing parts in too if you want a rebuild instead of a whole new system.

Do you guarantee the work?

Six months on all repair work and the parts we fit. Bring it back if the same fault returns inside that period and we will put it right at no charge.
