What we fix

The faults we see most on MacBooks

Model and year make a real difference to parts and cost, so tell us which MacBook you have and we will confirm what is possible before quoting. If your fault is not listed, bring it in anyway — we diagnose first.

Cracked or faulty display

Spilled coffee cracks, a dropped lid, dead backlight, vertical lines or a display that only works at an angle. On MacBook Pro the panel, lid and camera are one assembly, so we quote the whole thing rather than patch it.

Keyboard failure

Butterfly keyboards on certain MacBook Pro and Air models stick, repeat keys or drop characters, which Apple ran a global service programme for. We replace the keyboard assembly and test every key before handing it back.

Battery that won't hold charge

Dies within an hour, will not charge, or the trackpad works only while it is plugged in. That last one usually means the battery has swollen or the charge circuit is faulty. We replace and recalibrate the battery management.

Slow storage and full disks

Many older MacBooks shipped with small hard drives or slow SSDs, and macOS needs free space to work properly. A storage upgrade with your data cloned across usually transforms how the machine feels.

Liquid damage

Tea, coffee, wine or cleaning fluid. Switch it off, do not charge it, and bring it in as soon as possible. We clean and assess it properly, then give you a written report on what is recoverable before you commit to anything.

Won't power on, or no display

Completely dead, or alive but showing nothing. It may only need a battery, but after liquid damage or a previous repair it can be a board fault. We diagnose in-house and board-level work is carried out by Reset Lab in Cape Town.

Who does the board work

Logic board repair is not something any technician can turn up for. It needs the fault traced on a board under a microscope, and it is a different discipline from swapping parts.

We are a partner of Reset Lab in Cape Town, a specialist Mac board repair lab. Your MacBook is assessed here first, and if it genuinely is a board fault it goes to them for the microsoldering. They quote, we pass the quote to you unchanged, and the machine comes back to this workshop.

You are not being passed between strangers. There is one job card, one contact number, and a 6-month warranty on the work — ours, covering their board work as well as everything we do at the bench.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises

Every MacBook job runs the same way, and you get a written price before anything is booked in.

1. Tell us the model and fault

WhatsApp us a photo of the damage and the model and year, or bring the MacBook in. MacBook parts differ hugely between models, so this is the first thing we need.

2. Get a written quote

We assess it and send you a written quote in plain language, including what part we intend to fit. Nothing is booked in and no work starts until you say yes.

3. We repair it

Displays, keyboards, batteries and liquid damage are dealt with at the Paarl workshop. Board-level work is carried out by Reset Lab in Cape Town, a specialist Mac logic board lab we are a partner of. They do the board work; we do the diagnosis and you deal with one person the whole way. You get a written quote before any of it goes anywhere, and the finished machine comes back to us carrying our 6-month warranty. As a parts dealer we hold new and pre-owned original Apple stock, so we can often fit a part the same day.

4. Collect with a warranty

A 6-month warranty on parts and labour, written on your quote. If anything is not right, bring it back and we sort it.

Which models

Intel and M-series, MacBook Pro and Air

We work on both families across the range — older Intel machines through to the current M-series Apple silicon models. What is possible and what a part costs depends almost entirely on the exact model and year, which is why we quote per machine rather than per repair type. Send us the model and we will tell you where it stands. We are a dealer for original Apple parts. That means our repairs use genuine Apple components, and we hold both brand new and pre-owned stock. It also means we can source parts for older Intel MacBooks that Apple no longer lists — and if you would rather fit your own part than have us do the work, we can supply it. Board-level repair is handled by Reset Lab in Cape Town. We do the diagnosis in-house and you get a written quote before any of it is booked in, so you know the price and who is doing the work before you agree.

  • Displays: Retina and non-Retina panels on MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air
  • Keyboards: butterfly keyboard replacements and Magic Keyboard assemblies
  • Batteries: replacement and recalibration on models where the battery is user-serviceable or replaceable
  • Storage: SSD replacement and cloning, with your data transferred across
  • Software: boot failures, update loops, activation and macOS troubleshooting
  • Board faults: board-level repair by Reset Lab in Cape Town, quoted before it is booked in
  • Everything else in-house: screens, keyboards, batteries and liquid damage are done at our Paarl workshop
  • Older models: we source original Apple parts for Intel MacBooks Apple no longer lists

Questions

MacBook repair questions

The things people ask us most before dropping a MacBook off in Paarl.

How much does MacBook repair cost in Paarl?

It depends on the model, the fault and the parts involved, so we quote per job rather than publish a price list. Every quote is written and sent to you before anything is booked in, and no work starts until you approve it. Call 081 015 0573 or WhatsApp us with the model and the fault, and we will come back to you with a price.

Which MacBook models do you repair?

We work on MacBook Pro and MacBook Air across the range, from older Intel models through to the current M-series Apple silicon models. Model and year make a real difference to parts availability and cost, so tell us the exact model and we will confirm before we quote.

Do you sell MacBook parts?

Yes. We are a dealer for original Apple parts and hold both new and pre-owned genuine Apple stock, including displays, keyboards, batteries, trackpads and chargers. You can buy the part from us and fit it yourself if you are comfortable doing it, or bring the machine in and we will fit it for you. Tell us the exact model and year and we will confirm what we have against it.

Can you get parts for an older MacBook?

Usually yes. Apple has discontinued a lot of parts for older Intel MacBooks, but because we deal in original Apple parts including pre-owned stock taken from other machines, we can often still supply a display, keyboard, battery or trackpad for a model that is well out of warranty. Give us the exact model and year and we will tell you what we can source.

Do you do board-level repair on MacBooks?

Yes. Board-level work is carried out by Reset Lab in Cape Town, which covers logic board faults, no-power and no-display conditions, charging circuit problems, and damage from liquid. We assess the machine in-house first and give you a written quote before anything is booked in, so you know the price and who is doing the work before you agree to it.

How long does a MacBook repair take?

Battery, keyboard and storage upgrades are usually same-day or one working day when parts are in stock. A screen replacement often takes one to three working days depending on the display being ordered in. Liquid damage assessment and board-level work take longer because the outcome depends on what is found when the machine is opened.

Do you offer a warranty on MacBook repairs?

Yes. MacBook repair work carries a 6-month warranty covering both parts and labour, It is stated in writing on your quote so you know exactly what is covered, and it runs from the date you collect the machine. It is the same 6-month warranty we apply across all our repair work.

My MacBook screen is cracked. Is it worth replacing?

On most MacBook models it is, especially on a MacBook Pro where the rest of the machine is still strong. The expensive part of a MacBook is usually the screen assembly itself, so if the logic board, battery and keyboard are all fine, a screen replacement usually makes financial sense. Send us a photo and the model and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth doing.

My MacBook will not turn on. What should I do?

Try holding the power button for ten seconds to force a shutdown, then check whether it makes any noise or shows any light. If it stays completely dead it may only need a new battery, but if it has been liquid damaged or already had a repair it can be a board fault. Bring it in and we diagnose before quoting, and board-level faults are handled by Reset Lab in Cape Town.

Can you repair a MacBook that has been through liquid?

We assess it. Liquid damage is not always fatal, but it has to be cleaned properly and assessed before anyone can say whether the data and the board survived. We give you a written report on what is recoverable, and you decide after that. Do not switch it on repeatedly, because that can make the damage worse.

Do you use genuine Apple parts?

Yes. We are a dealer for original Apple parts and we use them on our repairs. We hold both brand new and pre-owned genuine Apple stock, including displays, keyboards, batteries, trackpads and chargers. We tell you which part we are fitting before you approve the quote. Pre-owned genuine Apple parts cost less than new and are the same part, which is often the sensible choice on an older machine.

What is the difference between new and pre-owned parts?

Both are original Apple parts. Pre-owned means the part came out of another machine and was tested before it was catalogued, rather than bought sealed from Apple. It is the identical part at a lower cost, which makes it a sensible option on an older MacBook where a new display would cost more than the machine is worth. New stock is used where it makes sense, and you can tell us which you prefer for your repair.

Is my data safe during the repair?

On most jobs yes, and we will back up what we can before touching anything that puts your files at risk. On liquid damage and board-level faults there is no guarantee, and we will be straight with you about that risk before starting. If your data matters more than the repair, say so and we will prioritise the backup.
